Band  In Absentia expects two more records on the way after the new one is out; one is a improvisations album and we are also recording and mixing bass to the first album that was recorded before Chris joined! I have also started the artwork for the next In Absentia CD, it's top secret and the new logo may have to be redone, but it was a nice first try. We have a lot of new shows lined up too, our show are on myspace.
Heavy Mettle (New Times Interview)Improv your outlook at PHiX In Absentia's amalgamation of kick-in-the-teeth hardcore, psychedelic confulsions, and free-jazz clamoring is foreign to many ears, provoking some unpredictable reactions from the exposed. Last year, we played an underground Internet Radio show and the DJ was a huge bunny that loves metal, says bassist Chris Robertson. Oh my God it was crazy and scary but we made it out alive and some of our best improvisitaion came from that show. On Friday, August 11, at the PHiX the all-instrumental imprvisiational three-piece will perform uber-intense songs encompassing a lot of energy that will throw you around a roller coaster of sounds, says Robertson. We always play something new we have naver played before and always keep it interesting. The band is currently working on it's first studio album and calls upon wide-ranging influences, from John McLaughlin's Mahavisnu Orchestra fusion sorcery and energized power chords from Dillinger Escape Plan to Aphex Twin-esque acid thrash and droning Stereolab rhythms. It's heavy music with most parts being emotional and melodic and we will throw in a lot of strange time signatures and a lot of good grooves, says Chris Robertson. Biography We are a band that is all about the music. We all have been playing in previous bands for over five years before starting In Absentia. Justin and Shawn where both in the metal band Esoteric. In Absentia really started when Justin and Shawn starting jamming together. They played for almost five years as a two piece band and have played a handful of shows in Arizona as just guitar and drums. They decided that they wanted to add more instruments to the band and went through a couple of second guitarists, bassists and singers. Justin added bass tones to the music with a bass amp and a splitter from his guitar amp. Early In Absentia songs where very hard core metal sound. In Absentia became whole when Chris joined the band as the bassist after Existi broke up in 2004.Right now we are writing songs, playing shows and we are always recording. We have three new songs now since Chris joined the band. We are writing music that is more dynamic than ever before with very strong fusion and jazz roots. In Absentia recently recorded our first live demo album in 2005 at the complex venue. |
